Sytheon’s Synastol TC is now available as a nutritional supplement – reportedly the first standardized terminalia chebula fruit extract for this application in the industry.
Terminalia chebula is an edible superfruit that’s known for its use in ayurvedic as a dietary supplement to treat a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes and arthritis. In skin care, Synastol TC is a natural and well-defined extract of terminalia chebula. When used in topical applications, Synastol TC is clinically proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles, repair skin barrier dysfunction and reduce the negative effects of pollution and blue light-induced skin damage.
Sytheon said it saw the opportunity to take the beneficial, holistic characteristics of TC to the next level by developing an ultra-concentrated and standardized bioactive powder form that can be used as an oral supplement. Synastol TC, delivered in a hard gelatin capsule, touts many benefits for skin and gut health.
Gut Homeostasis Improvement
Gut health plays an important role in overall well-being, including skin health. When used as an oral supplement, Synastol TC is linked to improving gut health by elevating microbiome diversity.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, eight-week study, subjects took 250-milligram capsules of Synastol TC twice-daily to evaluate the effect of oral TC on the gut microbiome and relevant biochemical pathways.
The results, officials said, were statistically significant. There was a greater alpha diversity and increased amounts of favorable gut bacteria and phages (p<0.05). There were also increases in Akkermansia muciniphila (expected to become a new probiotic in addition to Lactobacillusand Bifidobacterium); Short Chain Fatty Acid (SCFA, epigenetic regulators) production; serum bile acids (effectors of gut microbiome) synthesis; the production of Acetic Acid (p=0.045); the production of Propionic Acid (p=0.001); and an increasing trend of Butyric Acid (p=0.12).
Beauty Inside Out
When used as an oral supplement, Synastol TC successfully targets sebum excretion rate (linked to acne), facial erythema (redness) and wrinkles. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, eight-week study, subjects took 250 milligram capsules of Synastol TC twice-daily.
Per the results, there was a 33% decrease in sebum excretion rate after eight weeks of Synastol TC, compared to a 29% increase with placebo; there was a statistically significant decrease in cheek erythema after eight weeks of Synastol TC treatment, compared to an increase with placebo; and there was a statistically significant decrease in wrinkles after eight weeks of Synastol TC treatment, compared to an increase with placebo.
Overall, Syntheon’s findings suggest that oral supplementation with standardized TC extract with a highly enriched hydrolyzable tannins has beneficial properties for the skin, which may be due to improved gut health.
