When consumers head to the salon to get their hair done, many take advantage of the pampering experience as more than just a cut and color. They seek solace from their attentive hairdresser who listens to them lament their problems.
L’Oréal Professionnel is no stranger to salon chairs sufficing for a therapy recliner as hairstylists work hard to beautify their client as much as cheer them up.
Because hairdressers go "above and beyond physical transformations, offering care, listening, and absorbing the daily frustrations that enter our clients’ lives," according to the brand, L’Oréal Professionnel is spearheading an initiative to take care of hairdressers’ mental health, too.
For Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the brand is introducing the Head Up Campaign, a free mental health training program for all hair professionals.
Co-developed with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Head Up provides accessible, free resources to help hairdressers lead more fulfilling lives. In the six-episode series featuring Daniel Mason Jones, co-creator, hairstylist and mentor, hair pros can learn valuable self-care techniques and coping strategies to navigate life's unexpected stresses and anxieties in both, their personal and professional lives.
To champion the professionals that offer their hands and shoulder to cry on to their clients, the brand has joined forces with Calm, a leading mental fitness and resilience app.
As part of the partnership, hair professionals – 65% of which experience anxiety, depression, or career burnout – can access three months of the Calm app for free.
According to L’Oréal Professionnel, Head Up and Calm equip hair professionals with the tools necessary to take positive steps toward living happier and healthier lives and cultivate a community where hairdressers can openly address their mental health needs.
