Premiere hair care products and the ingredients to go with it work harmoniously with this Fall and Winter’s hottest hair trends. Read on to learn all about Clavicuts, Curtain Bangs and Warm Hair Color.
Clavicuts
Never has the clavicle been given this type of attention. Chin length or long hair seem to have been more of the mainstays when it comes to popular hair lengths. But this season, hair lengths that stop at the clavicle are all the rage. Textures for this trend can run the gamut from smooth to wavy depending on the natural texture or style mood. Also, these cuts can feature fringe or not. It’s the length of the hair that takes center stage with this trend.
Here at Philip Pelusi, our stylists are cutting these trendy dos with our exclusive Volumetric The Pelusi Method haircutting system. I created this organic cutting system to take into consideration the following factors: texture, density, growth patterns, fall lines and the shape of the head. In other words, we are creating a custom cut for every client.
And just as the Volumetric The Pelusi Method haircut should be customized for the guest, so should cleansing frequency and products. For Clavicuts, shampoo frequency should be based on density and texture. Because scalp lipids do not “wick” up the hair but absorb onto the hair, and finer hair lacks the strength to stand off the scalp, more frequent, perhaps every other day cleansing may be necessary. Medium to thick coarse hair textures tend to stand off the scalp and are generally a tougher “fabric”, so less frequent, perhaps every three days to once a week may be possible for cleansing. The longer and thicker the hair, the more color or chemical processes, the longer one can go in between cleansing. Another trick, when cleansing, is to focus shampoo at the roots to tackle dirt, oil, and debris and focus conditioner at the ends to hydrate parched hair that is chronologically older than the root growth.
Also avoid sulfates and instead stick with sulfate-free surfactants such as our Pelusi Sugarcane Cleanse Complex. Philip Pelusi P2 Ultimate and Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Shampoos are sulfate free and we use the highest technology, Micro Emulsion Technology to not only perfect our world-class ingredients, but to create incredibly unique proprietary blends that make our products one of a kind.
One of these totally unique blends is this Pelusi Sugarcane Cleanse Complex which includes 4 incredible ingredients: Sugarcane, Sugar Maple, Bilberry and Appleseed. This precise blend gently cleanses the hair and scalp while preserving both the color and integrity of the hair. Hair color lasts longer and the actual tensile strength of the hair is left stronger, making it more resilient to heat styling and other types of damage.
The Pelusi Sugarcane Cleanse Complex also leaves the hair with incredible shine, making hair color gleam, showing off the stylist’s incredible artistry. This blend is not designed to create bubbles but instead, like professional skincare, less bubbles are a signal of better and gentler for the hair and scalp and most importantly the color investment.
Curtain Bangs
If KC and The Sunshine Band songs start playing in your head when viewing the Curtain Bang trend for this Fall, it’s no wonder. This very 70’s-esque fringe style boasts long bangs with a curved center part, giving it that casual good vibe. Best on finer to medium textures, this is one style that works best when the hair is silky, less stiff, nor rigid from a tough blowout.
Curtain Bangs are soft and flowing often paired with a long shag haircut or Clavicut. These two varying lengths within the same cut means cleansing frequency also needs to be approached as separately. The longer lengths within this cut should abide with the aforementioned cleansing routine of only 3 times or less in a week. But the actual Curtain Bang area is much shorter in comparison allowing scalp oils to reach it’s ends more quickly. Therefore, they may need shampooing more frequently, even possibly daily, especially for fine textures.
We recommend looping this fringe cleanse in with a face cleansing routine. Right before cleansing the face, tie longer hair back, away from the face, leaving the fringe area out. Next, wet fringe and shampoo, rinse thoroughly at the sink, ring dripping water and clip back. Follow with your normal face cleansing routine, to remove any scalp and hair debris that might have landed on the face. Follow with skin care and hair care applications then style the fringe area as usual.
Cleansing bangs with a shampoo extending cleansing product, like our P2 by Philip Pelusi DeTox Treatment Shampoo, helps hair stay cleaner longer. This shampoo gives the scalp and hair a gentle color safe cleanse while its proprietary Micro Emulsion, the Philip Pelusi Ivy Rocket Blend, comprised of Ivy, Rocket Leaf, Watercress and Whortleberry, puts the scalp in Ph balance. This helps slow down the production of scalp sebaceous lipids while creating shine and body.
But if there is no time to shampoo, we recommend a hair refresher and texturizing combo, our P2 by Philip Pelusi RefresHair Smart Styling Treatment and Texture Spray. This acts as a hair fragrance and style refresher all in one! White Tea and Thyme freshen the hair’s scent, helping to neutralize any odors. We often have guests purchase this for the fragrance alone as a hair “perfume” if you will. But P2 RefresHair offers so much more. Sunflower seed extract prevents damage from free radicals caused by UV rays while the antioxidant properties of Fennel extract protect against the damaging heat when touching up hair with a flat or curling iron. The formula overall is designed to boost texture while protecting hair.
Warm Hair Color
And while the temperatures cool down, hair color warms up this season. Warm blondes, caramel, or auburn highlights and pumpkin toned balayage looks heat up the winter months. This can easily be accomplished by formulating a warmer toner to an already existing color service or by creating a whole new color look for a guest.
Color treated hair, coarse curly wiry dry thick textures and extra-long hair can all benefit greatly from skipping daily cleansing as appropriate. Philip Pelusi shampoos are the gentlest shampoos on the market, do not strip color or moisture and are of course sulfate free. But gentle cleansing is still cleansing. Instead do a thorough hair and scalp rinse followed by our P2 by Philip Pelusi Clenz Crème, a non-foaming plant-based cleanser which gently lifts and suspends oils and other residues from hair and scalp, which are then removed during rinsing. It leaves hair with weightless conditioning, excellent combability and lustrous shine. Aloe barbadensis, Ceramides, Panthenol, Baobab protein and plant Keratin extract soothe and moisturize the scalp while Baobab oil contributes shine and helps seal in moisture.
Water is one of the great culprits when it comes to color fade but getting the hair wet to reboot your style or spring up curls or waves can be necessary a day or two after a thorough shampooing. Rinsing does help to remove some the surface debris on the hair, especially if you consistently use Philip Pelusi styling products which are water and shampoo soluble.
A great treatment for hair and scalp starts with a thorough rinse, a least for a minute or two, gently moving the hair to let the water flow in between all your tresses. Next, depending on the length and density apply a dime to quarter size amount of P2 by Philip Pelusi Clenz Crème and work through hair. Leave on the entire time you are in the shower for maximum results. Rinse thoroughly and style as usual.
Fine to medium textures find this routine works well after every other “shampoo day” and thicker coarser and longer hair types find this is even more effective if done twice in between. The longer, drier and coarser the hair is the barometer. And extra-long hair can benefit by first applying P2 Clenz Crème from the ponytail point to the ends then shampoo their scalp with their favorite Philip Pelusi Shampoo.
A small amount of our Pelusi Sugarcane Complex gives the most subtle cleansing effect, as this ingredient purposely assists in removing surface debris. At the same time, Baobab Protein strengthens the hair and Baobab Oil seals moisture and adds slip and detangling. P2 Clenz Crème works great on any texture except for fine very sparse hair types.
