Half of the world's population lives in cities. Pollution is day after day a higher concern for consumers. Exposed to urban pollution, the skin becomes more sensitive, it loses its brightness and ages prematurely; a process that Alques & Mer calls "Polluaging."
At In-Cosmetics, Algues & Mer (stand N46) is introducing Invincity, a material based on high molecular weight (HMW) fucoidans. Naturally present in brown seaweeds, fucoidans are sulfated polysaccharides. A&M extracts them from organic certified seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum, harvested on Ouessant Island, in Brittany, France.
According to Algues & Mer, Invincity regulates a specific receptor to polyaromatic hydrocarbons: Aryl hydrocarbon receptor. AhR are found in keratinocytes, melanocytes, fibroblasts and Langerhans cells. When activated by a pollutant, they trigger the expression of genes controlling reactions like oxidative stress, inflammation and melanogenesis. Ex-vivo test shows that Invincity decreases AhR expression by 73% compared to placebo.
