In a poster at the Florida Sunscreen Symposium, Consumer Product Testing Co., Inc. (stand 27) describes the seasonality of Minimal Persistent Pigment Darkening (MPPD), which is used to measure the ultraviolet A protection effectiveness of sunscreens. Analyzing a >6000 point dataset, MPPD dose (MPPDD) did not correlate with season (p=0.302). In a smaller subset (n=372) in which same day Individual Typology Angle (ITA°) was measured, MPPDD values significantly correlate with season (p<0.001) with lower values in the winter months. ITA° inversely correlated with MPPDD (p<0.0001). These comparative data are informative tools for sunscreen research methodologies.
