She made it through a love triangle with her best friend’s boyfriend, escaped a fraternity house fire and fled a religious cult as Kelly Taylor, star of 90’s hit teen television show “Beverly Hills 90210,” so actress Jennie Garth knows a thing or two about pulling it together and looking polished on and off the set. Now, as a mother of three girls, she is imparting that industry wisdom onto her kids and millions of others in a new campaign for P&G.
Crest and Oral-B have teamed up with Garth and her 9-year-old daughter, Lola, to inspire children and parents alike to brush up on their oral hygiene before heading back-to-school this fall. The pair, along with dentist and orthodontist Dr. Jennifer Salzer (who is also founder of this cool jewelry line http://www.bracedlets.com/), promoted Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health For Me products at the Make Meaning craft space in New York City on Aug. 8.
“As a parent, I want to build a strong and healthy foundation for my daughters, which is why I have always tried to instill good habits related to nutrition, fitness and oral care,” said Garth. “Sometimes it’s more difficult to keep routines in place during the summer. The back-to-school season is a great time to build a schedule that works for the whole family and to identify the right tools to ensure we take the best care of ourselves.”

Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health For Me, the first complete line of oral care products for tweens (kids ages 8 and up), has launched a new electric toothbrush to address oral care issues affecting this specific age group, particularly those with braces. Oral-B Stages, designed for children ranging from four months to seven years of age, has also added a Disney favorite, “Jake and the Neverland Pirates,” to the product line.
“The most important part of oral care happens at home. Proper brushing and flossing habits, along with regular dental checkups, can help children establish positive lifestyle habits, while also preventing tooth decay and gum disease,” advised Dr. Jennifer Salzer, dentist, orthodontist and mom of four. “Using products such as Crest and Oral-B can give parents a peace of mind that their children are receiving excellent oral care—while knowing that these are products children will want to use.”

Salzer also noted that flavor is a key element when it comes to oral care for tweens.
“The older kids tell us they don’t like the spicy flavors of adult toothpaste and the ones for younger kids are too sweet…these products fall in-between,” she said.

In a special sit-down session with editors after the presentation, Garth told Happi that packaging is important as well when it comes to shopping for oral care products.
“I like to listen to my kids,” she said. “This is why the Stages line is so great, it’s really age appropriate.”
