Activities in Washington DC will be chaotic through November 3 and beyond, but some issues demand immediate attention, notes Columnist Nadim Shaath in The Sunscreen Filter (p. 36). The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, for reasons known only to politicians (and therefore have no reasons at all) includes crucial elements that will “shape and influence sunscreen regulations for many years to come,” Shaath notes.
Specifically, the CARES Act includes The OTC Reform Act legislation that, among other things, repeals the 2019 Tentative Final Monograph, authorizes a 5-year user fee program and eliminates the Sunscreen Innovation Act.
And you thought CARES only cared about coronavirus!
In a year when things keep getting curiouser and curiouser, 2020 will, one way or another, come to a close. But the politics and the pandemic are sure to spill over into the new year. Every traditional in-person event on Happi’s 2020 calendar has moved online or moved on to 2021. In fact, some events for 2021 have already been pushed out into the ether. For example, The American Cleaning Institute will hold its 2021 Annual Meeting & Industry Convention during the last week in January, but it will be an online affair. Meanwhile, Messe Frankfurt, the big exposition center in Germany, has already announced that no shows will take place onsite for at least the first quarter of 2021.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves—there’s still plenty of 2020 left. If you’re in the market for a new manufacturing partner for your novel household or personal care product, turn to our Contract Manufacturing & Private Label Directory.
