Sunscreen Patented by Shiseido

Beauty giant is awarded US Patent 12,653,765 B2.

US 12,653,765 B2 (Shiho Iwami; Yurika Watanabe); Shiseido Company, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, has patented a sunscreen cosmetic containing an oil phase thickener, an ultraviolet protectant, a wax powder having a volume-average particle size of 1 to 30 μm and an organically modified clay mineral. The formulation is designed to achieve high ultraviolet protection without blending large amounts of ultraviolet protectants, while avoiding the use of microplastic beads such as silicone polymers and polymethyl methacrylate.

The protective effects are further enhanced upon contact with water or perspiration, surpassing the performance levels seen immediately after application, according to the patent.
