Hair care line Bread Beauty Supply has raised a multimillion-dollar seed funding round led by Fearless Fund, a venture capital fund that mainly supports Black entrepreneurs.

Maeva Heim, a Black-Australian entrepreneur Maeva Heim began the brand at the turn of the Covid-19 pandemic to cater to women with textured and curly hair. She saw a hole in the market for women seeking products that supported the transition from relaxed to natural styles.

With the new investment, Bread Beauty plans to enhance its R&D capabilities, fortify its distribution channels to reach a wider customer base and expand its product line.

Three years in, Bread Beauty went from a direct-to-consumer to being available on sephora.com with three SKUs. Its current eight consist of a hair cream, macadamia oil and mud mask, which, in addition to being available at Sephora are also available for purchase at Ulta, SpaceNK, Selfridges and Farfetch.

A portion of the funds will also go in support of the company’s marketing efforts to raise brand awareness and engagement.

Ahead of its launch, Bread Beauty reportedly secured over $2 million in pre-seed funding led by Imaginary Ventures, the firm of Net-a-Porter Founder Natalie Massenet that also supports brands such as Everlane and Glossier.
