If there’s one thing that irks beauty enthusiasts the most during winter – besides the unpleasantness of worsened rosacea and dry skin – is chapped lips.

According to New York City-based beauty trend tracker Spate’s Popularity Index, peptide lip treatments and lip butters are the moment’s fast-growing lip care products to combat irritated pouts.

Peptide Lip Treatments

Peptide lip treatments have grown by +327.3% compared to last year across platforms, per analysts. TikTok owns this trend, holding 96.0% of the popularity share, with searches for peptide lip treatments increasing by +347.5% over the past year. On Google, searches are up +104.7%. Rhode’s Peptide Lip Treatment is dominating searches, with Rhode peptide lip treatment, Rhode lip treatment dupe and Rhode birthday cake lip treatment list toppers.

But Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Beauty isn’t the only peptide-powered product consumers are scouring the internet for. Ole Henriksen’s Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment, specifically in Blood Orange Spritz, is also trending. Spate heed brands to take note: both products are tinted, hinting that consumers want lip care that’s not just effective, but doubles as makeup.

Lip Butters

On a sliding scale of lip care, lip butters typically fall thicker than balms and glazes, but thinner than lip masks, per Spate. No matter the texture, however, one thing is as clear as gloss — consumers want an ultra-moisturizing, buttery formula, signaling a preference for intensive hydration.

According to Spate, this trend has grown by +90.1% compared to last year and across platforms. TikTok leads the charge, holding 73.1% of the popularity share, with searches for lip butters increasing by +106.8% on the platform. Meanwhile, Google searches have grown by +56.0% compared to last year. Specific brands are driving interest, with top searches including Summer Fridays, Brazilian Kiss, Nivea, Revlon, Korres, Kiehl’s and Sol de Janeiro.

While many brands appear in top queries, the second-most searched term is simply “lip butter,” suggesting that curiosity and (word of mouth!) around the format itself is growing. This creates an opportunity for brands to educate consumers on what sets lip butters apart before making the case for why theirs wears the crown.
