In the latest data compiled by beauty tracker Spate, the fragrance and makeup categories are outperforming skincare and hair this season compared to fall 2020.

Oud Perfume
Oud perfume is the more expensive fragrance on the market, it’s more coveted than its eau de toilette counterparts.
The fragrance, which emits a warm, woody scent with a stronger, longer wear and is in high-demand due to its oil which is sourced from the wood of the agar, a wild tropical tree. It harkens back to the days when perfumes were more of a specialized, luxury item before the rise of affordable fragrances like eau de toilette sprays that became an everyday accessory.
The product, on average, gets 11,300 searches per month in the U.S., which is low volume relative to other perfume searches, but growing more than 48.0% since last year. Competition is moderate with market leaders like Tom Ford, Gucci, and Kilian.
Sunscreen Mist
With searches for antioxidant and vitamin C searched alongside sunscreen mist, it’s clear that consumers are interested in multi-tasking formulations. This is also emphasized by the fact that SPF-setting spray is on the rise (over 52.4% year over year), though future growth is uncertain making the trend a risky one.
SPF sprays are easy and convenient as there is less mess and no need to rub on a white, chalky lotion that leaves users looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost.
There are on average 2,900 searches for Sunscreen Mist every month in the U.S., which is low volume relative to other sunscreen product searches. It has experienced over 80.9% growth since last year without any market leaders. However, brands like Neutrogena, Hampton Sun, Supergoop, among others, are coming up in searches for this trend.
