Procter & Gamble has rolled out Head & Shoulders Bare, a new anti-dandruff shampoo formulated with just nine ingredients.
According to a recent study conducted by Head & Shoulders, more than half of scalp health sufferers have the misconception that anti-dandruff shampoos damage their scalp and that DIY home treatments are a more effective solution for their scalp concerns.
In the study, 90% of scalp health sufferers have tried a DIY scalp solution they discovered from a news outlet or on social media, thinking it will be the answer to their scalp woes.
P&G says Bare’s launch comes after two years of work and more than 100 formula attempts.
The ingredients are:
• Zinc Pyrithione
• Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
• Lauramidopropyl Betaine
• Cellulosic Polyquaternium
• Acrylate,
• Citric Acid
• Fragrance
• Sodium Benzoate
The new anti-dandruff formula is free from sulfates, silicones and dyes. P&G says it is dermatologically tested and clinically proven and to work across all hair types and deliver the effective dandruff protection expected from Head & Shoulders.
“Millions of people suffer from dandruff, and many consumers are choosing minimalist products. After years of research and seven pending patents, we are excited to offer Head & Shoulders Bare,” John Brownlee, P&G SVP NA hair care, said in a statement. “Consumers can feel confident in a minimal ingredient solution – formula and bottle – that gets the job done with the trusted and proven dandruff protection that makes Head & Shoulders the No. 1 dermatologist recommended brand.”
Bare comes in two variations: Pure Clean, a coconut water scented formula for oily scalp and hair; and Soothing Hydration, which has an orchid and aloe scent and is designed for dry scalp and hair.
Head & Shoulders has been on the market for more than 60 years.
Head & Shoulders Bare ($9.99) is exclusively sold at Walmart stores and Walmart.com.
