What do Coty, Estée Lauder and Chanel have in common? All of them were winners at The Fragrance Foundation’s annual FiFi Awards. While all three are regulars to the podium, the Foundation honored many other fragrance marketers including Yves Rocher, Elizabeth Arden and even La Prairie, which is best-known for its skin care formulas.
The black-tie awards event, held June 10 in New York City, welcomed leaders of the beauty industry by honoring this year’s most fabulous fragrance brands with 25 coveted crystal FiFi Awards (see p. 66).
Celebrities and boldface names rubbed shoulders at the event, including Harry and Laura Slatkin, actress Saffron Burrows, Randy Jackson of “American Idol,”Kim Kardashian, Tinsley Mortimer and more. Designer Michael Kors and musician Usher were also in attendance— receiving commendations for the 2010 Hall of Fame Award and Male Fragrance Celebrity of the Year, respectively.
This year, for the very first time, The Fragrance Foundation inaugurated the FiFi Awards Charity Auction in the days leading up to and following the red-carpet party in New York City. Charities include the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), championed byKors and The New Look Foundation, founded by Usher.
The Fragrance Foundation hopes to make this “give-back” component an annual feature of future FiFi celebrations.
History in the Making
The Fragrance Foundation was established in 1949 by six industry leaders affiliated with Elizabeth Arden, Coty, Guerlain, Helena Rubenstein, Chanel and Parfums Weil, to develop educational programs
about the importance and pleasures of fragrance for the American public. Today, America is the largest fragrance market in the world and The Fragrance Foundation has become an international source for historic, cultural, scientific and industry related reference materials.
Each Spring, The Fragrance Foundation organizes the annual FiFi Awards. The American FiFi Award was conceived in 1973 by then president Annette Green to acknowledge and honor the creativity of the fragrance industry. In 1993, the first annual European FiFi was awarded.
