Shiseido acquired Olivo Laboratories LLC for an undisclosed amount. Olivo Labs, Watertown, MA, was founded to target unmet needs in the dermatological field and provide solutions to skin-related medical conditions through proprietary biomaterials technologies. Olivo Labs’ lead technology is based on the platform initially developed at Living Proof in collaboration with Rox Anderson at The Wellman Center (Harvard-MGH), and Bob Langer and Dan Anderson at Langer Lab (MIT).
Olivo Labs’ patented technology consists of two leave-on formulations that are said to spread easily, dry quickly, and, together, generate an invisible, breathable, elastic, occlusive, long-lasting film on skin.
In other news, Tengram Capital Partners signed a definitive agreement to acquire luxury skin care brand RéVive from Shiseido Americas Corporation. RéVive was acquired by Shiseido Americas as part of its 2016 acquisition of Gurwtich Products LLC from Alticor.
Under the terms of the agreement, Tengram will run the company as an independent and stand-alone entity based in New York City.
Tengram Capital is a private equity firm that invests in companies in the branded consumer products and retail space and acts as a catalyst to drive growth. Its current beauty portfolio includes Nest Fragrances, Algenist, specialty beauty retailer Cos Bar and natural beauty brand This Works.
The new company will be led by Elana Drell Szyfer, who worked with Tengram as the CEO of Laura Geller New York.
