US Patent No. 10,231,909 B2 (Reiji Miyahara, Tetsuro Yonezawa, Kenji Kurokawa); Shisiedo Company, Tokyo, Japan, has patented an α-gel intermediate composition consisting of mixture of one or more higher alcohols having 16 or more carbon atoms, and an anionic surfactant; and a mixture of one or more water-soluble solvents and water.
The anionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of N-acyl methyl taurine salts, N-acyl glutamic acid salts, and monoalkylphosphoric acid salts.
The composition, when at 65°C to 85°C, is a liquid bicontinuous microemulsion or a lamellar liquid crystal-dispersed bicontinuous microemulsion; at room temperature it is a solid.
