A multiple patent recipient who has led product development efforts at global marketing firms such as Unilever and Beiersdorf, Dr. Anand Mahadeshwar has joined ISP Corporation as director, Global Hair Care R&D Applications and Personal Care Consumer Science.
Dr. Mahadeshwar has overseen numerous projects in laundry detergent and hair care technology during his tenure at marketer companies. He has worked with a cross-section of hair care specialists – including prestigious salons, industry thought leaders, and ingredient suppliers – to advance new technologies in the category. In addition to 10 patents he has already received, Dr. Mahadeshwar has applied for more than a dozen others and written papers for six international publications in the field of surfactants and particle science. He has also received special recognition by industry and academic organizations.
“Having Anand join our Personal Care group is a real pleasure for me. His expertise reinforces our commitment to innovative products that meet our customers’ expectations and needs,” said Claude Dal Farra, ISP vice president of R&D. “To bolster our capabilities in this market segment, we needed to gather professionals coming from the finished goods industry who have a strong sense of consumer needs and who have a deep understanding of what it takes to innovate. Anand is a perfect example, and his experience at Unilever and Beiersdorf gives him this insight.”
Prior to joining to ISP, Dr. Mahadeshwar led advanced product development in hair care and styling at Beiersdorf, producing myriad innovations in the category. Before that, he was global project leader for Unilever in the UK, where he helped develop next-generation technology.
He received his Ph.D. in surfactant science from the University of Mumbai in India, where he also received a master’s in physical chemistry and a bachelor’s in chemistry.
“Product science has seen considerable progress in the last decade, but it is a challenge to simplify these theories so that it can be used to create products in different applications,” Dr. Mahadeshwar commented. “Hair care is one of the fastest-growing personal care categories. I am looking forward to working with my team in the U.S., Europe, China and Brazil to develop consumer-perceivable innovations.”
According to Dr. Mahadeshwar, the Consumer Sciences unit will focus on key challenges that ISP has identified as priorities in the marketplace. Specifically, these include products that help consumers improve their lifestyle and next-generation goods boasting superior formulation design and consumer insights. He said ISP will aggressively compile consumer insights and leverage this knowledge to build novel innovations.
“Anand will be leading our efforts in building a strong Consumer Sciences program. This program will enhance our ability to address the complex, technical challenges of today’s personal care industry,” Dal Farra added.
