Enhance curls. Define ringlets. Hydrate locks and braids...with 12 new products formulated for adults and kids with textured hair. A new hair care line for all curl types now available in Whole Body at Whole Foods Markets, Beautiful Curls by Alaffia, is formulated specifically for waves, curls and kinky hair by fair trade and natural-beauty pioneer Alaffia, according to the company.
The range features a Curl Activating Shea Butter System that moisturizes and nourishes medium to tight spirals with handcrafted, certified fair trade shea butter and carefully selected herbs, vitamins and minerals. Products vary from shampoos to defining gels.
Certified Fair Trade by IMO’s Fair for Life program, all of Alaffia’s products contain ingredients made by a cooperative in Togo, West Africa. Over 300 women are paid a living wage for their work, which helps combat poverty and gender inequality in their communities. Alaffia also funds health and education projects in the region with 10% of every sale. In 2009, the company distributed 1,000 fruit trees to women farmers, shipped 973 donated bicycles to help girls travel to school, supplied school desks for over 100 students and provided 70 low-income women with prenatal care.
In addition to these projects, Alaffia is building five bio-gas units in central Togo that will turn farm and household waste into natural-gas fuel, reducing fuel wood use in order to slow deforestation, according to the company.
