Procter & Gamble temporarily shut down plant operations in Japan following Friday's earthquake and tsunami.
P&G has three plants in the country, but only shut down operations at a fabric care facility. P&G officials said in a news release the majority of its employees in Japan have been accounted for but communication is difficult because of the widespread destruction.
"The safety of our employees and the continuity of our business are our primary concerns," the release said.
The company said it will restart operations as soon as it is safe to do so.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action as necessary to meet the needs of the business and our employees," the company said.
