Saks Incorporated said owned sales totaled $277.1 million for the four weeks ended November 26, 2011, an 8.7% increase over the same period in 2010. The strongest categories at Saks Fifth Avenue included cosmeticsand fragrances, according to the company.
On a year-to-date basis, for the ten months ended November 26, 2011, owned sales are up 8.5% increase and comparable store sales increased 10.2%.
In other retail news, Stage Stores, Inc.—parent to Bealls and Goody’s stores—said that its total sales for the four-week November period ended November 26, increased 4.3% to $121 million and Comparable store sales increased 2.3%. And like Saks, beauty was a highlight.
Among the merchandise categories which achieved comparable store sales increases were cosmetics.
Andy Hall, president and CEO of Stage, said he was encouraged by his firm’s “positive start” to the holiday shopping period.” In addition he expects December to benefit from our “key merchandising initiatives in cosmetics…”
