Coty Prestige is extending its reach in the color cosmetics segment with the launch of a 130-stockkeeping-unit color cosmetics line under the CK One brand name. The collection is sent to debut inSpain’s El Corte Inglés next month, and in April to the U.S. along with a number of global markets, including Australia, France and Portugal.
Sources say that with price points starting at $13, CK One will challenge entry-level department store leaders, such as Clinique and MAC.
This won't be the first time, nor the second or third, that CK One tried to crack the color cosmetics category. Back in the 1970s, there was a Calvin Klein color collection. Then, in 2000, Unilever Cosmetics International tried color while it held Calvin Klein’s beauty license. But the line never expanded its distribution and was phased out in 2003. Most recently, in September 2005, Calvin Klein Inc. teamed up with Markwins International for a line, launched in spring 2007, under the cK Calvin Klein Beauty name. Both the Unilever collection and the Markwins one had average price points from $14 to $50 at retail. The Markwins line is no longer sold.
