In honor of Rite Aid’s 50th anniversary, the company announced today the launch of RA50, a multi-faceted, six-month celebration designed to commemorate Rite Aid’s long-standing tradition of providing personal healthcare services, health and wellness products and community partnership.
“Rite Aid’s motto is ‘with us, it’s personal’ and for fifty years, our associates have proudly delivered on this promise by meeting the health and wellness needs of our customers and communities,” said Rite Aid Chairman, President and CEO John Standley. “RA50 embodies our core values and is the perfect way for Rite Aid to thank the many communities across the nation that have helped us grow and to continue our mission of helping those we serve live healthier, happier lives.”
Rite Aid’s history can be traced back to Scranton, Pa., with the opening of its first store, known as the Thrif D Discount Center, on Sept. 12, 1962. Though covering an area of only 1,400 square feet, this store set the foundation from which the company would grow into not only one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains, but also the health and wellness destination for millions of people across the country. Rite Aid’s first pharmacy was opened in 1966 and the company was officially named Rite Aid Corporation in 1968. Today, Rite Aid employs over 90,000 associates and operates over 4,600 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
RA50 kicks off today just down the road from the company’s headquarters in Camp Hill, Pa., in nearby Harrisburg. The company is providing a free, healthy breakfast and hosting a wellness fair for state employees at the Capitol and will also be providing free wellness kits to the Capitol Police. Additional RA50 wellness acts will take place in Harrisburg on September 13 and 15.
RA50 then moves on to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Scranton, Cleveland, Detroit, Portland, Ore., Los Angeles, Atlanta, Norfolk and New York City over the next ten weeks.
Rite Aid has also created a special website, www.ra50.com, which will provide details on the corporate-sponsored wellness events happening across the country.
