A house divided cannot stand...but what about a corporation? After years of agonizing over its dual-headquarters structure in Rotterdam and London, it appears that COVID-19 has convinced Unilever that running operations from two headquaters just didn't make sense anymore—as if it ever did. In June, the company announced plans to unify its group legal structure under a single parent company, Unilever PLC. The move, Unilever acknowledged at the time, creates a simpler company with greater strategic flexiblity.
This week, shareholders in the Netherlands voted nearly unanimously in favor of one headquarters based in London.
There will be no changes to the manufacture and supply of Unilever products in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom as a result of unification, the company noted.
