A San Francisco company is touting what it considers the first clean beauty brand for dogs.
The brand, Rowan, is a premium coat-care collection co-founded by Michelle Arnau and Sally Clarke, who teamed up with a board-certified veterinary dermatologist and an expert chemist to formulate the line.
Rowan's formulas use human-grade, high-quality ingredients that leave dog's coats shiny and skin nourished while also meeting the brand's "clean dog standard" to ensure all products are free from what it calls “dirty stuff—like harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, silicones, or dyes.”
With more people concerned about allergens in their homes there has been a significant rise in 'hypo-allergenic' breeds leading to the need for specific formulations for dogs with hair coats, according to the company. The firm says similar to the world of human hair care, different types of coats have different needs, which is why the team at Rowan has created specific products for fur and hair coats.
"At Rowan, we believe our pets deserve the same level of self-care that we give ourselves, and this commitment drives our choices every step of the way," said Arnau. "Pet grooming products are relatively unregulated and companies can manufacture whatever they deem acceptable with little to no oversight. As picky pet parents, we set out to change that by using cleaner, human-grade ingredients that work and give our pups the pampering they deserve without compromising on clean."
The Rowan launch collection consists of five premium coat-care products including: Fur Wash, which has coconut oil and argan oil; Hair Wash, which has avocado oil and coconut oil; Dry Shampoo with aloe vera and baking soda; Coat Refresh, a spritz with coconut oil and aloe vera; and Coat Shimmer, a shimmering coat creme made with edible mica.
Rowan is available exclusively online and retails between $20-25.
