Oral care leader Colgate is rolling out a new manual toothbrush with a replaceable head that will result in 80% less plastic waste and stem the tide of discarded brushes ending up in landfill.
More than 495 million adult manual toothbrushes were purchased in the US. in 2020 and will likely end up in landfill because they cannot be easily recycled, said Colgate.
The new brush, named Colgate Keep, has a snap-on replaceable brush head and a reusable aluminum handle to inspire people to make small steps that add up to significant impact. It is available online and at national retailers. A starter kit is approximately $9.99.
There are two bristle variants (Deep Clean with Floss-Tip bristles and Whitening with spiral polishing bristles) as well as a cheek and tongue cleaner on the back of the brush head. The outer cardboard packaging is made with 60% recycled content, all of which is recyclable.
Colgate-owned Hello Products is also rolling out its own brush in a similar design.
