For brands looking to enter the ever-saturated skincare market, accessories are a bright entry point, says New York City-based trend tracker Spate.
For brands that already offer skincare products, Spate encourages them to consider how an accessory could complement them. Currently, two of the top-growing skincare accessories in US searches are the Kansa wand and pore spatula.
Beauty enthusiasts may already be familiar with gua sha, the traditional Chinese healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a flat stone. However, gua sha has experienced a decline of -126.70% year-over-year (YoY), suggesting that the Kansa wand is poised to replace it as the new it gadget for skincare.
Kansa Wand
The Kansa wand is an Ayurvedic tool specifically designed for facial use to reduce puffiness, soften the appearance of fine lines and promote energy flow. Currently, there are zero market leaders in this category, but the Ayurvedic brand Ranavat offers a Kansa wand on their site, a strategic move given the +6.6% YoY growth in searches for Ayurvedic oil. Additionally, facial massage is on the rise, with a +7130.4% month-over-month (MoM) increase in average weekly TikTok views, indicating the potential for creating viral content centered around the Kansa wand.
Pore Spatulas
Pore spatulas, also referred to as pore scrapers or vacuums, utilize ultrasonic waves to generate high-frequency vibrations that aid in loosening and removing impurities, dead skin cells and excess oil from the skin's surface. Essentially a form of physical exfoliation, the pore spatula represents a relatively small volume trend, with an average of 600 monthly searches and no market leaders. The primary search queries include pore spatula, pore cleaner spatula and pore spatula reviews, indicating that this trend is still being driven by consumer interest. It's clear that consumers are intrigued by the idea of minimizing their pores, as evidenced by the +22.8% YoY increase in pore strip searches.
