Glamlite launched the first pizza eyeshadow palette, and it sold out in just 48 hours. The Glamlite Pizza Palette, which was $40, launched Dec. 12 and sold out instantly.
Within a couple of hours of its debut, the kit went viral on Instagram, being featured by major influencers and makeup artists including Manny Gutierrez, Jeffree Star, Nicol Concilio, Promise Tamang and others.
According to the company, the $40 pizza pie-shaped palette was available for purchase. In 24 hours, sales of the palette reached $50,000!
The palette contains 18 bold and highly-pigmented colors, each named after favorite pizza toppings like pepperoni (a fire truck red), basil (a deep olive), and yes, even pineapple (a shimmery gold)—the most polarizing topping of all.
But, it’s more than just about makeup and pizza for the Brooklyn-raised founder, Gisselle Hernandez. Growing up as an immigrant in a low-income household, “pizza was my family’s idea of eating out, and what we could afford,” she said. “Throughout college I ate a lot of pizza because not only is it my favorite but it was super affordable.”
The self-made makeup company founder added, “I struggled with my weight and was body-shamed my entire life. My goal with this palette is to let people know that it’s okay to be yourself and embrace the things you love! I’ve always had a passion for makeup but have always felt out of place in an industry that frequently focuses on perfection. The pizza palette is my way of saying I am free, I am no longer scared to be myself. This is the most liberated I’ve ever felt. For the first time in my life, I no longer care what people think of me because being my true self is more important than anything!"
Other cosmetics offered by Glamlite include the Kaliente palette ($38), inspired by the tropical turquoise beaches of the Caribbean, the mesmerizing sunsets of the Mexican Riviera and spicy Latin culture from the streets of Los Angeles where Glamlite was founded. There are also single SKUs like brow pomade ($12), Bronze Bling highlighting powder ($14) and Tropic Rose blush ($14). And, for a good cause, the Miracle kit ($28) is a tribute to women who have been affected by breast cancer (Glamlite Cosmetics will be donating 10% of the proceeds to fund breast cancer research).
All Glamlite makeup products are cruelty-free and vegan and more are in the works for 2019.
For consumers who missed out on the pizza palette, they can still get their fix; pre-orders are being accepted for early 2019 delivery on glamlite.com.
