Last month, Mattel announced that it was teaming up with Bonne Bell to launch a line of Barbie cosmetics aimed at younger consumers. Earlier this year, Mattel scored a big hit with the rollout of Barbie cosmetics for women In fact, Mattel said the spring 2007 “Barbie Loves MAC” collection was MAC’s largest and most successful ever (for more, visit the Happi.com archive).“The Barbie Loves MAC Collection sold through 70% of two months’ worth of inventory in just two weeks,” said a Mattel spokesperson. And some items, like Rocking Chick Lipstick, “sold out within days.” That line even included a doll, a $35 MAC Barbie. Now, Mattel hopes to do it again via a Bonne Bell partnership.
Mattel kicked off the New York Licensing Show by announcing a new premier partnership between Barbie, the world’s No. 1 fashion-themed doll among girls, and Bonne Bell, the No. 1 girls’ cosmetics brand—celebrating a union of girls’ most popular brands.
“This partnership celebrates the Bonne Bell Company’s 80 years of experience combined with the world’s most famous face Barbie—known globally for fashion, beauty and fun,” said Richard Dickson, senior vice president of marketing, media and entertainment, worldwide for Mattel. “Barbie and Bonne Bell are a perfect union of brands, and this girl-focused initiative promises to bring innovation and fun to the cosmetics category.”
“Both Barbie and the Bonne Bell Company have the unique heritage of positive relationships with generations of girls and women around the globe,” said James Ward, chief marketing officer for the Bonne Bell Company. “We know that girls, moms and grandmothers will hold a sweet spot in their hearts for our new partnership and we look forward to offering fans of Barbie and Bonne Bell fresh new ways to experience ‘all the flavor of being a girl’ today.”
The new cosmetics line is expected to launch in 2008.
