• Dr. Philip Geis and David C. Steinberg have penned a letter in response to an article published in the Anterior Eye and Contact Lens, which attributed acute eye discomfort/damage to cosmetics. The article in question is: “Transport and interaction of cosmetic product material within the ocular surface: Beauty and the beastly symptoms of toxic tears” by Malik and Claoué.
According to Geis, the letter was submitted to correct a major error in the reference manuscript of Drs. Malik and Claoué. Specifically, in the referenced manuscript these authors incorrectly reported preservative use in eye area cosmetics, projecting an inappropriate and inaccurate risk assessment for this category of products.
