The Society of Cosmetics Chemists has scheduled several courses in March and April, all of which will be held in the New York/New Jersey metro area. They are:
- “Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry,” March 28, DoubleTree Newark Airport Hotel, Newark, NJ. Moderated by Perry Romanowski, this course is designed with beginning cosmetic chemists in mind. However, information presented will also be useful for QA chemists and seasoned veteran scientists who want to learn about other areas of formulations, scientists in related industries, college students studying chemistry and marketing or sales people who could use a primer about the chemistry of their products.
- “Clinical and Instrumental Testing of Skin,” April 2. DoubleTree Newark Airport Hotel, Newark, NJ. Instructed by Randall Wickett, this course focuses on measuring the biophysical properties of human skin in vivo. Modern methods for testing the effects of skin care products will be discussed. The major emphasis will be on noninvasive measurements of skin function using instrumentation. The course goal is to teach cosmetic scientists how the latest noninvasive methods for studying product effects on human skin in vivo can be used for research guidance and cosmetic claim support.
- “Botanical and Naturals for the Naturals Market,” April 10, SCC National Office, New York City. Instructed by Arthur Georgalas, it is designed for formulators, researchers and marketers who want to learn more about natural products used in natural personal care products with focus on botanicals. The course will cover what are natural products, why do we want to formulate with them, USDA and NGO certifying bodies and rationales for ingredient acceptability and restriction.
