Split end hacks include split end mender and hair dusting.

Apparently split ends aren’t “the end” for the flowing waterfall hair trend.
Beauty enthusiasts who have worked hard growing their hair down their back for vanity’s sake aren’t seeing their haircutters any time soon to freshen up the ends. Instead, they’re seeking solutions to keep them. Per Spate’s Popularity Index, the moment’s top-growing split end solutions are split end mender and hair dusting.
While technology has yet to innovate a curative solution for repairing split ends, split end menders offer a temporary cosmetic fix using polymers, silicones and proteins to bind frayed hair fibers together. Analysts say interest in the category has grown 228.2% year-over-year across platforms. While overall popularity remains low, growth suggests consumers are looking for alternatives to cutting off damaged ends. Google owns 53.8% of the Popularity Share, up 151.6% year-over-year. On TikTok, the trend has positive sentiment (8.2/10) but very low engagement (1.6%) and a high paid views share (93.0%), suggesting awareness is driven primarily by advertising.
For brands, the opportunity lies in translating paid awareness into organic conversation through education and creator-led content. Related TikTok Categories like Hair Serum (13,500 weekly views) and Length Retention (12,800 weekly views) show growing interest in preventing breakage and preserving hair length. Monat (39,500 weekly views) currently dominates the conversation with its product Rejuvabeads.
Hair dusting is a technique that removes split ends without sacrificing overall length, appealing to consumers who grimace at the word “trim” and prefer maintaining their precious tresses in the comfort of home. Analysts say the trend has grown 163.9% year-over-year despite low popularity, signaling increasing consumer interest across platforms. TikTok owns 55.7% of the Popularity Share, 134.3% year-over-year.
Low paid views share (3.2%) and low shop views share (3.2%) suggest the conversation is driven largely by organic interest over advertising. Analysts say this presents a prime opportunity for brands to build credibility with aftercare products that support breakage prevention, length retention, and healthier-looking hair. Related categories like Hair Growth (487,500 average weekly views) and Long Haircuts (478,600) reinforce that consumers are prioritizing hair health without giving up length.
