According to Guidant Financial’s Small Business Trend Report, 35% of businesses are owned by Black women. With the month of August marking National Black Business Month, what better way to celebrate than to highlight an entrepreneur in the industry like Brittney Ogike and her company, BeautyBeez.
After noticing the lack of Black-owned beauty supply stores, a modern retailer for women of color was established by indie pioneer Brittney Ogike. She and her husband, Ike Ogike, decided to open their own beauty supply store in North Hollywood, CA in 2019 and has seen great success since its inception.
BeautyBeez, located in the heart of Southern California, is the one-stop shop for all of your beauty needs at an accessible price point, according to the company. Gone are the days of going to multiple stores for all of your beauty and hair care faves like Bolden and Taliah Waajid! Featuring a selection of hair care, bath and body go-to’s, skin essentials, wigs, extensions, and the upcoming relaunch of their beauty bar (facials, eyebrow threading, body waxing and braid bar), BeautyBeez is a brown girl’s dream come true, said the company.
Hair care brands in this retail hub span from Alikay Naturals to Aunt Jackie’s for curls and coils. Skin care offerings include Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 for face and body, Urban Skin RX Complexion Protection Moisturizer and Rich by Rick Boss body wash, to name a few.
When she’s not working in sports management or raising her children, Brittney is the Queen Bee creating a buzzing community where multicultural awareness is celebrated at BeautyBeez.
And, did you know Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks is one of the top 20 players in the league and a two-time All-Star? As Brittney's brother, he is also involved in this business as a backer! Middleton credits much of his off the court success to his sister—now, he’s investing in hers.
