Royal DSM, a global, purpose-led, science-based company, will host a “Safer Under the Sun Day,” a skin cancer prevention and education awareness event, in Washington, DC on May 19 to commemorate its 2022 sponsorship Destination Healthy Skin, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer education and screening program. The Foundation has provided more than 25,000 free skin cancer screenings, working with volunteer dermatologists to identify more than 10,000 potential skin cancers and precancers, including 450 suspected melanomas.
Tens of thousands of people have received free skin cancer educational materials and sun protection products through the program.
Destination Healthy Skin
DSM is a 2022 sponsor of Destination Healthy Skin, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer education and screening program. The Destination Healthy Skin RV, equipped with two private exam rooms, travels around the country from May to September spending two days in each community it visits. Local volunteer dermatologists provide free, full-body skin cancer screenings on board the RV. Participants receive skin cancer prevention and early detection literature.
“Destination Healthy Skin gives us the opportunity to tangibly connect with thousands of people each year as our RV makes its way around the country,” said Dan Latore, executive director of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “About 60% of our program participants have never had a prior skin cancer screening. Partners like DSM help make this meaningful public service possible, and we’re grateful to have their support.”
To celebrate Skin Cancer Awareness Month and DSM’s sponsorship of Destination Healthy Skin, the Safe Under the Sun event, will be held in the Rayburn House Office Building with representatives from DSM, The Skin Cancer Foundation and Beiersdorf Inc. The event will feature a panel discussion with congressional, government, nonprofit and industry leaders on skin cancer prevention and how sunscreen can help consumers be #SafeUndertheSun. Free facial skin cancer screenings, brochures, product giveaways will also be available at the event. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US with 1 in 5 Americans developing this highly-preventable cancer by the age of 70.
