Grammy Award winning artist John Mayer is partnering with eco-friendly detergent, fabric care, and home cleaning company The Laundress to create a product line benefiting the Montana Association of Land Trusts (MALT).
The Laundress co-founders Gwen L. Whiting and Lindsey J. Boyd worked alongside Mayer to create two products inspired by Mayer’s home state of Montana. The Laundress X John Mayer Laundry Detergent (Retail Price $19.00) and Fabric Fresh (Retail Price $16.00) will be sold exclusively at The Laundress SoHo flagship store in New York City and online at starting today (Sept. 30). Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales will go directly to MALT and its conservation efforts.
The relationship with Mayer began with a social media shout out from the musician when he revealed that he used The Laundress products to handwash his favorite white t-shirts. The three soon came together and discussed a mutual passion for textiles as Mayer revealed his affinity for the art of indigo dying, his favorite street style sources, and his museum-worthy, private vintage archive collection.
The SKUs have a curated fragrance called Out West, which has powdery notes with rich undertones of sandalwood, leather, and amber surrounded by spice, patchouli, and musk that captures the spirit of the American West, according to the brand.
“They’ve elevated it from a chore to something more engaging. Their product, their packaging, and their messaging really appealed to me, and before long, I was educating myself on fabric care in a way I wished I had years ago. Everyone who has a passion for clothes should get into maintaining them.”
