Shoes come in many sizes, but fragrances? They’re a one-size-fits-all feel-good commodity. So goes the philosophy of iconic designer Sam Edelman who, after 40 years of designing stylish women's footwear, clothing and accessories, is growing his lifestyle brand to branch out into the world of fragrance. His first scent? Signature: a sweet, floral scent “for those who aspire, crave expression, and are on a journey to their own signature,” according to the brand’s official website.
Edelman told media outlets that his wife, Libby, was the muse behind the fragrance and its story. "Signature" is based on the lifestyle of a younger version of Libby: the visionary envisioned her exercise routine and online dating life, for example, that evoked comfort and a strong, satisfying quality of life. The result, created by Firmenich principle perfumer Frank Voelkl, is notes of mimosa accord, airy florals, sandalwood, heart woods, margarita froth and green florals.
While the customer, Edelman says, is more diverse than the muse off of which the fragrance is based, it is his hope that Signature introduces the brand to a whole new customer who, in turn, has yet to discover Sam Edelman across America. Sam Edelman currently has 13 flagship stores in key markets across the country in SoHo, Palm Beach and Beverly Hills. He continues to expand his presence overseas to Hong Kong and Dubai.
Signature will launch on the brand’s website, SamEdelman.com, Macy’s Inc. and through Scent Beauty on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Prices start at $68 and range to $100.
