To mark the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, SC Johnson relit its Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Research Tower, which will be open for public tours for the first time in its history later this spring. The historic tower, which was closed in 1982, served as the creative inspiration and birthplace for some of the company’s leading brands and products including Raid, Glade, Off! and Pledge.
Opened in 1950, the tower was home to SCJ’s R&D scientists. It is located at the heart of SCJ’s headquarters in Racine, WI and stands 153 feet high with 232 stairs that climb 15 stories.
Although SC Johnson closed the facility in 1982, the company still lit the Research Tower every night.
