Revlon posted mixed results for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2015. Net sales slipped 0.2% to $471.5 million as the US business reported gains, but international sales fell. Consumer segment net sales were flat at $348.1 million as gains from sales of Revlon color cosmetics, Revlon ColorSilk hair color and Mitchum antipersipirant deodorants, were partially offset by lower sales of Almay color cosmetics.
Professional segment net sales in the third quarter fell 8% to $114.5 million, but business was favorable for Creme of Nature multi-cultural hair products, American Crew men’s grooming products and Revlon Professional hair products.
US consumer sales rose 4.6% to $255.0 million, driven higher on sales of Revlon color cosmetics and Revlon ColorSilk hair color, but were partially offset by lower Almay color cosmetics sales. Net sales in the US decreased in the professional segment primarily due to lower net sales of CND nail products, partially offset by higher net sales of Creme of Nature multi-cultural hair products.
International sales fell 5.3% to $216.5 million. However, international net sales increased in the consumer segment primarily due to higher net sales of Revlon color cosmetics, Revlon ColorSilk hair color and Mitchum antipersipirant deodorants. International sales increased in the professional segment primarily due to higher net sales of Revlon Professional hair products and American Crew men’s grooming products. From a geographic perspective, the increase in international net sales was primarily driven by certain distributor markets, according to Revlon.
