Ahead of Aveda’s 40th anniversary this fall, the brand is relaunching one of its very first products. In 1978, Horst Rechelbacher launched Aveda with a handful of shampoos and one conditioner: Cherry Almond Bark, which went on to become a customer favorite and was on salon shelves for nearly 30 years. Fans and Aveda artists have called for a comeback, according to the company, which has granted their wishes with an improved formulation and a new sister shampoo. According to Aveda, new Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo and Conditioner ($17 each) are ideal for all hair lengths, and are particularly exceptional for long hair. Sweet almond oil is rich in natural omega 9 and omega 6 fats; combined with Cherry Blossom Extract they work together to provide a daily dose of emollients and vital nutrients to help restore softness from roots to ends for touchably soft hair. Babassu and coconut-derived ingredients help to deeply, yet gently, cleanse hair. And, according to Aveda’s R&D team, it has developed a blend with coconut oil and shea butter that mimics the performance and after-feel of silicones without buildup.
