Do you know JOMO? We didn’t think so. But the Joy of Missing Out is one of the key consumer trends shaping the new year, according to Euromonitor International in its new report Top 10 Global Consumer Trends 2019. According to the authors, consumers are becoming wiser and know what they want and when they want it. Moreover, consumers in developed economies are re-evaluating their spending habits, and moving away from overt materialism in favor of simplicity, authenticity and individuality.
If that’s the case, the time is right for Dermalogica’s new Digital Detox Treatment, which is available this month at select Dermalogica locations throughout the US. The Digital Detox Protocol is a 60-minute treatment that is said to go beyond just addressing skin care concerns by allowing recipients to completely disconnect, while addressing the skin conditions caused by digital dependency (like “tech neck,” dullness, fine lines and hyperpigmentation).
“People want to disconnect, not permanently, but being able to completely disconnect for a small period of time, allows a person to reset and gain back their ability for deep thinking and maintained focus,” explained Lynne Araw, global marketing manager of service innovation,” Dermalogica.
The seven-step treatment begins with a weighted blanket placed over the client to cocoon her from outside stressors, allowing her to really disconnect, according to Araw.
“I came across the trend of weighted blankets and started to do research on the people it was designed for, those with high anxiety and PTSD,” she told Happi. “We found these people also suffered from over stimulation and found that this was a growing concern, especially with all the blue light effects of technology wreaking havoc on our skin and sleeping schedules.”
The Dermalogica team knew this blanket would fit in well with a ProSkin treatment due to its calming effect, so they customized the PRO 60 Digital Detox Treatment to include the Contour masque which also has the same calming effects, due to its cooling, sealing and lightly weighted properties.
Next, clients receive a double cleanse to remove makeup and impurities, followed by professional resurfacing to treat signs of aging/hyperpigmentation caused by HEV light and dullness caused from fatigue and stress.
“The effects of HEV are definitely on the skin’s surface,” explained Araw. “Exposure to HEV light can lead to inflammation, sensitivity and dryness, which lead to uneven skin tone and texture. These are the skin concerns addressed with professional exfoliation.”
Following exfoliation, professional-grade ingredients A, C and E help accelerate the skin’s natural repair process, strengthen elasticity and improve smoothness while defending against free radicals. Dermalogica products that contain these ingredients include BioLumin-c Serum, Mulitvitamin Power Firm and Age Reversal Eye Complex.
Step 4, Touch Therapy/Facial Massage, helps lower stress and stimulates lymphatic flow, improving blood circulation, to help filter away toxins and recapture a healthy, energetic glow. Steps 5 & 6, the 20-minute Digital Detox, allows the recipient to completely disconnect from the outside world. During the detox, IonActive Serum is applied followed by the Contour Masque.
Finally, in step 7, a customized application of finishing products leaves the client feeling feeling rebooted, recharged and revitalized, according to Dermalogica.
Dermalogica is promoting the Digital Detox treatment through February in its concept stores in Santa Monica, CA and Soho, NY.
“However, this treatment will continue to be available in Dermalogica accounts indefinitely,” said Araw, who added that the Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon would complement this treatment at home—for everyone who wants to be left alone.
