Planning to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend? If you are one of the nearly 38 million Americans who will hopping behind the wheel—or into the passenger seat—you might want to hit the car wash first or pack some hand sanitizer.
According to a new swab test and survey released by CloroxPro, the front seat cup holder (1,179 germs), the dashboard air vent (1,082 germs) and trunk (1,180 germs) were the germiest parts of the car.
Oddly enough, the steering wheel (408) and driver door handle (375) don’t have as high a concentration of germs, even though these spots were among the top locations drivers thought to be the worst areas.
According to CloroxPro, 56% of people surveyed said they rarely think about the germiness of their car and its effect on their health. Further, 61% said cleaning and sanitizing their car is a low priority out of all their other errands and life tasks.
CloroxPro is touting a new fix: early this year, it partnered with AutoNation to create PrecisionCare powered by Clorox Total 360, a sanitizing system that uses electrostatic technology combined with Clorox products to kill 19 of the most common illness-causing germs.Through the partnership, PrecisionCare powered by Clorox Total 360 will be available to customers at more than 240 AutoNation locations.
