There’s good news to report from alternative shopping channels. QVC’s Allen Burke said sales were strong, driven by devices such as Clarisonic and Tria. Meanwhile, sales of Philosophy and Dr. Perricone skin treatments propelled sales, as did new products from Kiehl’s. In color, top selling brands included Bobbi Brown, Mally and Laura Gellar. Burke added that QVC has aggressive plans for 2010, led by Kim Kardashian and her fragrance in February, and Ken Paves and his hair line.
Over at HSN, Michael Henry called December’s beauty sales “phenomenal,” with nearly double-digit increases. Leading the way were prestige brands like Lancôme. The top fragrance was Sean John, which sold $500,000 in product in less than an hour.
Finally, Kathleen McNeil of Drugstore.com and Beauty.com said new initiatives, such as limited-time free shipping throughout the season, boosted sales. On Beauty.com, limited edition items and gift sets, including Stila’s Mini Lip Glaze Collection for $25, also did well. Demand for devices was up, especially the $149 Mia Sonic, a new entry price point from Clarisonic.
