Croda was awarded runner-up in the category of Sustainability Leadership at the 3rd Annual Sustainable Beauty Awards by Organic Monitor in Paris on Oct. 24, 2016.
In receiving the award, Croda has clearly demonstrated its leadership in sustainability through key aspects of its program including: commitment to renewable raw materials (66.1% derived from renewables in 2016) and focus on sustainable product development through 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. At the same time, Croda was placed in the top 1% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis, a sustainability assessment platform, achieving gold status for the last three consecutive years.
Croda’s manufacturing operations were also recognised through the entry; with 24.2% of the group’s energy coming from non-fossil fuel sources in 2015, around half of which is generated by their own investment in renewable energy including solar panels, a wind turbine and landfill gas. They are also investing in the construction of the first manufacturing site in North America that will use ethylene oxide derived from bio-ethanol and will lead to the production of 100% renewable non-ionic surfactants. This is alongside ongoing efforts to reduce water usage, emissions and waste to landfill.
After collecting the award, Chris Sayner, vice president of customer alliances within sustainability at Croda, said: “I was very proud to collect this award on behalf of our company; it recognizes the sustainability efforts of all our employees."
